Project Show Love for Otalia & Guiding Light

Hello Otalians,
Many of you know that one of my main goals in writing about Otalia weekly is to bring in new and old fans. I am here to say that it is working based on some feedback I have received. Since I hopped on the purple express known as Otalia, I have been very supportive about the show and the people who make it: the crew, Ellen Wheeler, Jill Lorie Hurst, and the actors. For about a month or so, I have emailed fan letters to Jessica Leccia and Crystal Chappell. These letters offer my appreciation for their work, and I copy/paste my Otalia posts in the letters for their enjoyment. However, I felt that I wanted to extend that appreciation further and did so.
I sent a hardcopy appreciation letter to Jill Lorie Hurst the week of May 25 and on June 2. The letter I sent the week of May 25 was the first time I have never sent appreciation letters to a writer before. It is not something I do or think about doing. However, I could not ignore the beautiful job Jill Lorie Hurst has been doing with the writing for Otalia. I have no idea if she is aware of my blog posts. Therefore, I wanted to send her something personally from me. Little did I know, this was a second step – outside of just emailing Jessica and Crystal – towards an unknown effort at the time.
Those steps led to a very special initiative in regards to Guiding Light and of course, Otalia. On Twitter, I have a habit of saying “show love” in regards to showing my appreciation towards Otalia or Guiding Light. As a result, I am calling my initiative Project Show Love. With Project Show Love, I plan to shower someone at the Guiding Light with my words of praise, encouragement, and acknowledgment of their efforts. This will come in the form of emails and/or hardcopy letters unless I can think of something nicer to do. I will do this for at least one person per week. For me, this will be a weekly initiative, but there is also a daily initiative as well. I started calling the Guiding Light on June 2 to express my love of the show. I will continue to call Guiding Light (1-866-695-1859) during my lunch break five days per week. If you are a Big Purple Dreams member, you can read how the June 2 and June 3 conversations went by clicking this link.
In addition to showing support to the people that comprise Guiding Light, I am also ramping up my letter writing campaign to save the show. This is also a part of Project Show Love. Guiding Light is my absolute favorite TV program to watch right now. I am a “block episode” TV watcher but not with Guiding Light. It is the only show I watch on a regular basis, and I don’t fall behind by letting the episodes pile up. I started watching every day right after the Otalia love confession. This show is worth saving. It is worth the fight. I love this show in a way that I have never experienced with any other TV program. Considering I never thought I’d watch Guiding Light again after I quit it in 1993, that is an amazing feat. It should speak volumes about how good it is.
Finally, I wanted to add that I will discuss anything related to Project Show Love primarily on Twitter. If time permits, I will discuss what I have done or am doing on Big Purple Dreams; I’m The Hive Mind there, too, by the way. For Twitter users, the hash tag I will be using is #showlove when I discuss this initiative. If you would like to be involved, you are more than welcome. It would be wonderful if others want to do the same acts of love that I’m doing. I know many of us are already doing some of what I spoke about here, but let’s continue to be supportive of Guiding Light. Let’s show them some love people!
Note: You can find me and follow me (only if you want to) on Twitter underneath my alias, thehivemind.

What a GREAT idea! More love is what everyone needs and by showing love, we bring more to ourselves and the world. I stopped watching GL because of the “kissing/cousins” story, which I didn’t think was anything about love.
Otalia has brought me back and I love this story and am deeply saddened it may end so soon.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Nonie,
Thanks. Like you, Otalia is what brought me back. I try not to think about an ending and try to be optimistic about finding Guiding Light a new home. I have to believe that our love as fans can do something to keep the light shining. We just have to keep trying.
