Moto’s Lost its Mojo

I was browsing through the cell phone reviews over at CNET last night and was reading the best cell phone category. Motorola’s Razr2 made the cut, and while watching the video review about the phone, I was thinking back to the last time Motorola had a hit phone other than the Razr. Of course, I came up with nothing…other than the StarTac. If you’ve been a follower of cell phones, it seems quite obvious that Moto has lost it’s mojo because they seem to be stuck on sucking the life out of the Razr, a phone that was the “it phone” several years ago. It appears that former CEO Ed Zander only had one trick up his sleeve and nothing else, hence one of the reasons why he’s no longer CEO of Motorola.

Unless Motorola comes up with something other than a new variation of the Razr, they will sink to the bottom of the pile in the mobile phone industry. While I do think the Razr2 looks great, I think they should have named it something other than “Razr2.” I think it’s time to retire that name altogether because I have just as much Razr fatigue as I have for the Apple iPhone.
