    Baby Steps

I’ve done it. I’ve taken another step towards entrepreneurship. I just purchased the domain for the name of my company, which I will not reveal at this time. As I have stated here in the past, I have been thinking about doing a startup. I decided that now was the time to stop thinking so much and just do something about it. I still don’t have a clear, defined path of what I want to do yet, but I do know what I want the name of the company to be. I felt I should snag the domain name before someone else came along and took it. If I hadn’t, I would have had to start a whole, new painful process of domain searches. After spending way more time than I want to admit for a domain search, I can understand why many Web 2.0 companies have misspellings in their names. Not one to fall into “trends,” I found myself resorting to misspellings at times for domains I really wanted. Fortunately, I found a name where I didn’t have to go that route with the domain I chose.

Now that I’ve taken this step, I feel like I’m on a course to something different. For me, different is good as the whole “9 to 5″ lifestyle isn’t me and never will be. At least if I’m doing something straight from the heart, it won’t be work to me, and I won’t mind putting in extra hours to get this effort off the ground. It isn’t uncommon for me to be wrapped up in a project the entire weekend just to get something launched, especially if it’s worth it. I feel that being free and following my own career path is worth losing a little bit of sleep. Considering the potential payoff, it’s not a bad trade.
